First as a volunteer and later as a professional, I have been working with traumatized populations for most of my life. For a long time, I didn’t realize I was one of them. It figures. Many of us who lived through abusive childhoods, then unconsciously recreated them in adulthood, have high levels of empathy and a sincere desire to help others who may have suffered as we did.
